Our glass rooflights are made in-house by our expert team, using 6mm clear toughened glass combined with a 15mm warm edge spacer bar, creating a high-performance, stepped insulated unit. Choose between double-glazed or triple-glazed options - all units are argon-filled for improved energy efficiency.

Frameless vs Walk On Rooflights

A frameless rooflight is not rated for foot traffic. The glass is a stepped insulated unit built for daylight and thermal performance rather than load bearing. Where the roof surface is being used, the walk on glass rooflight is the correct specification, built from three laminated layers of 10mm toughened glass into a 33mm panel.

If privacy matters as much as light, the switchable glass rooflight adds smart glass to the walk on build and switches between clear and opaque at the touch of a button.

The other distinction worth knowing is the edge detail. A frameless rooflight has no visible border, with an optional black painted edge encapsulated into the glass to conceal the framework beneath. A flat glass rooflight uses a slim aluminium frame, which is the more conventional look and often the easier retrofit.
